Resonant Frequencies explores the complex relationship of sound and image in contemporary art. The exhibition surveys the role that sound plays in the conceptual and aesthetic development of contemporary sculpture, painting, and technologically-driven art.

Sergei Tsvetkov: Recent Work features a number of ambitious large-scale prints, as well as works on paper. Heavily influenced by history and geometry, Tsvetkov is well known for his stunning intaglio prints.

Easter Tradition: Peeps Show IV

Sorry but I could not resist posting this one. Washington Post has an annual diorama contest called Peeps Show and artists use the marshmallow goodness known as Peeps to create this little scenes. This year my personal favorite is called "Creating a Masterpeeps" and it is a studio where artists are creating paintings from a reclining model. (Please note my fave detail, the Peep skeleton)

I am always looking for examples of art being used as a means of communication and expression. PostSecret is an ongoing community art project where people mail in their secrets anonymously on one side of a postcard.
There are drawings, advertising images, letters, notes that have been appropriated for personal expression.

One of the artists I really admire is Chuck Close. He inspires me because of the evolution of his work, his incredible work ethic and technical skill illustrated in his use of media.

Life Masks: National Portrait Gallery

While navigating through the National Portrait Gallery's online exhibitions, I found these two casts made of Abraham Lincoln's face. Sculptor Leonard Volk took the first life mask of Lincoln before he started his run for the presidency in 1860. Clark Mills took the second one at the end of the Civil War in 1865. What an undeniable effect the presidency had this man!

It is in Washington, D.C. and is part of the Smithsonian Institute. Here is the link to the Presidential portrait gallery, but I encourage you to check out all the galleries.

Charles Dana Gibson

Charles Dana Gibson was an American illustrator working during the late 1800's and early 1900's. He creates rather nostalgic images but has an unbelievable dexterity with the use of line.
